Livewire Youth Music are planning a weekend of live music on the 23rd and 24th March 2024 along with the sale of a vinyl compilation album featuring music from Livewire bands/artists past and present.
The idea came about after it was confirmed we didn’t have a high–level gig in the March after Stiff Little Fingers performed for the last two years. Andy Rance suggested to Mike Snook (Events Co-Ordinator) that we tried to see if a couple of bands that were still about that formed at Livewire, but were now too old to be members and a couple of the current bands would like to put on a show.
The following week the conversation came up again when Andy and some of the trustees met some interns from Plymouth University offering support, of which one was an Events Intern, it was suggested that this would be a good project for her to work on.
Fired up from this conversation, Andy set up a group chat with as many Livewire Alumni as he could remember who were in bands over the last 20 years, asking if anyone was interested. Within 24 hours we had a list of 25 acts interested, including bands that were keen to reform for the event. So an evening of entertainment has become a weekend of reflection and reunions with the Saturday expected to be the heavier bands performing and the solo artists such as The Voice’s Shane Brierley and more indie, pop, folk bands performing on the Sunday.
Both Andy and Mike were blown away by the response and are now putting together a team to make this happen.
In addition to what is looking like a spectacular and emotional weekend, a while back Dave from DMS (Disc Manufacturing Service) had offered Andy free pressing of a compilation album on vinyl, this had stalled a little as life had got in the way and when asked if it was still on the table, he said yes and offered Livewire 250 copies including remastering the tracks for vinyl. We are currently gathering in the tracks from the bands taking part in the event and hopefully we could have the record in time to sell on the weekend, with all proceeds going towards Livewire.
Livewire will be asking the young people to design the artwork for the sleeve.
Bands expected to play are Refuge of The Fallen (reforming for the event), Minor Offences (reforming for the event), Courting Summer (One of the first bands formed at Livewire), Junk, Horizons, PitcherUK, The Outlanders, Haunt The Woods, The Quantize (Acoustic set, reforming for the event), plus bands that include Alumni such as Breather, Entity of Maker, Monochorme, Wild Fenn, Lacerta and current bands and artists such as Death Assault (Metal 2 The Masses finalist for the last two years), The Kites, Sleaze, Levi, Nicole, Caitlin, Joey, Millie, Roisina and Shane. With still more to confirm.
Tickets for weekend are on sale now via Seetickets at £10 per day or £15 for the weekend (Plus fees).
